Cody's Journey of Healing with Essential Oils

Cody's Journey of Healing

Your Life Essentials Your Life Essentials

Rescued on June 25, 2013 by Missouri Forget-Me-Not Horse Rescue & Sanctuary, Cody was chosen to be a companion to my gelding Rashiiq following the loss of his sire. When Cody was picked up on Oct. 8th, we discovered he had endured a serious barbed wire injury to his neck. I immediately knew this was a perfect opportunity to fully discover the benefits of Young Living's Therapeutic Grade™ essential oils. These photos show Cody's journey from his rescue day in June, his arrival to his new home in October badly injured and his amazing recovery.

Young Living Essential Oils brought Cody healing, balance and stability.

My YL sponsor had previously experienced good results with one of her injured horses using Purification essential oil blend, Lavender essential oil and Animal Scents Ointment, so I began by applying Purification and Lavender to Cody's neck daily.

  • Week 1: After the first week the infection was gone, dead skin cells had sloughed off - wound closed.
  • Week 2: The second week I began applying Animal Scents Ointment daily.
  • Results: By the end of the second week there was no evidence of scarring and hair was growing back in.

Over the past 25 + years I have used both traditional and non-traditional methods to treat wounds like this on horses I raised, but I haven't used anything that has worked as quickly and totally as the Young Living Therapeutic Grade™ essential oils did!

In the mean time, Rashiiq is wasting no time teaching Cody how things really are here. Rashiiq walking CodyRashiiq is boss - he's always been the boss - even over his own sire! Cody had to learn how to come to feeding time behind Rashiiq, how to eat away from him and to wait his turn for water. Cody quickly became fairly nervous and easily spooked when Rashiiq would move towards him for a 'lesson'.

You can see in their first walk together how Cody leaned his neck and body to the left - as if he was about to fall over onto Rashiiq when walking next to him. When Cody was haltered and led, he did the same thing and would crowd me by leaning into me. It's been my experience that a horse does this because they lack self confidence - figuring the closer they can get to you the safer they are, but it invades the handlers space. I don't know how Cody came to be blind in his right eye, but he had issues with his balance and stability and lacked confidence, and Rashiiq's lessons were now exaggerating all of Cody's weaknesses.

I did no special training with Cody - I just applied Young Living essential oils.

To help Cody regain his confidence and balance, and to help him stay calm while Rashiiq taught him his rules, I began applying Valor and Peace & Calming essential oils beginning behind Cody's ears at the top of his neck and then down his neck and along his spine about every 6 to 8 inches to the base of his tail. The Essential Oils Desk Reference states that Valor essential oil blend "was formulated to balance energies and instill courage, confidence, and self-esteem. It helps the body self-correct its balance and alignment." On Peace & Calming it states, "This blend promotes relaxation and a deep sense of peace and emotional well-being, helping to dampen tensions and uplift spirits."

After just a couple of treatments I watched Cody become calmer and more confident in his responses to the lessons from Rashiiq. He quit crowding me in their feeding area or when he was haltered and led in hand. I continued applying Valor and Peace & Calming to Cody every other day for two weeks.

Comparing the photo of Cody the first day he arrived to the photo just 4 weeks later shows how Cody is no longer leaning over, but instead his body is straight and his balance is now centered.
